Introduction The San Miguel County Parks & Open Space department is requesting estimates from experienced landscape designers to develop a conceptual plan with costs for landscaping and other improvements to Galloping Goose Park in the Town of Telluride, San Miguel County, Colorado. Improvements will include landscaping, improved and/or additional flower beds, bench(es), and the incorporation into the park of a new ADA accessible ramp leading into the adjacent San Miguel County Courthouse. Background/Historic Summary This park is nestled between the historic San Miguel County Courthouse and the County office building on West Colorado Avenue in Telluride. Its main attraction is the historic Galloping Goose train, which is #4 from the original “flock of geese'' train cars built in Ridgway, Colorado in the 1930s that were initially used to deliver mail to the surrounding mountain communities, but were later converted for tourist operations. This is a small (approximately 3,250 sf or .075 acre), popular park with beautiful flowers and a picnic table for a nice quiet respite from the bustle on West Colorado Avenue. This park is directly adjacent to the San Miguel County Courthouse, and provides a shady place for visitors to Colorado Avenue and those doing business at the Courthouse a place to sit, eat, meet, take a phone call or relax and enjoy a peaceful outdoor setting. Landscape Design Scope of Services Conceptual plan with finished costs for landscaping and other improvements. New flower bed locations and species including any improvements to existing beds. Bench(es) for seating, including number, location, style and costs. Incorporation of new ADA handicapped accessible ramp on west side of building into overall design.
