The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is a line office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) which is a bureau of the United States Department of Commerce. NOAA is dedicated to protecting and preserving the nation's living marine resources through scientific research, fisheries management, enforcement and habitat conservation. NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Services (NOAA Fisheries) is the lead federal agency responsible for the stewardship of the nation's offshore living marine resources and their habitat. NOAA Fisheries manages, conserves and protects fish, whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other living creatures in the ocean.
The Office of Protected Resources seeks a part-time laboratory technician to assist with organization and technical tasks at the University of Florida, where a number of marine turtle health-related activities are performed for the NMFS and the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network. The activities include necropsy, mortality event studies, and molecular diagnostics. In addition, a substantial archive of priority biological samples collected from stranded turtles is maintained at this site.
