U.S. Joint Forces Command and the Hampton Roads chapter of NDIA have opened registration for this year's two-day industry symposium, which will focus on joint battlespace dominance, blue force situational awareness and combat identification. U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), charged with leading the transformation effort of the U.S. military, will partner with the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) for a two-day industry symposium. The event will be held at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center in Old Towne Portsmouth, VA commencing on 17 March 2004 through 18 March 2004. Presenters from JFCOM and NDIA will discuss issues that focus on the theme: "Joint Battlespace Dominance through Combat Identification and Blue Force Situational Awareness." During the symposium, presenters and panel members will provide information to government officials and industry representatives. Following each presentation, a question and answer session will focus on improved methods for the military and industry to partner together for a continuous information exchange. According to organizers, this year's event will have a slightly different format from previous symposiums, since industry leaders will be contributing to the presentations. Members of industry will discuss current initiatives on transforming the ways the military operates on the battlefield. The scheduled presentations and panel discussions will focus on several areas of JFCOM's mission including joint training, joint requirements and integration, and joint experimentation. In addition to the directorate's discussions, there will also be service panel presentations. Army Lt. Gen. William S. Wallace will be one of the featured presenters. He is the former commanding general of V Corps during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and currently serves as commanding general for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Wallace will speak about his operational background and experiences during OIF. Prior to taking command of V Corps, Lt. Gen. Wallace served as director of joint training at USJFCOM. Event organizers believe it is beneficial to build and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders. During this event industry leaders will also obtain information about the future joint environment. According to organizers, working with industry allows JFCOM to impact research and development as well as accelerate the solutions for the joint warfighting capabilities.
