ACOG, as the professional association of the specialty in North America, is the locus of the pertinent clinical policy and professional standards related to women's health care. This places ACOG in the unique position of being the single organization with the expertise and processes in place to provide the services required by the Agency. Also, ACOG is the organization that establishes the evidence-based standards of care for women in obstetric, gynecologic and well-woman care - standards that accreditation organizations require the IHS to maintain when providing care to AI/AN women. The College has been involved since 1970 in issues relating to the health and well-being of AI/AN women and their children through its Committee on AI/AN Women's Health and its multiple consultant activities with the Indian Health Service.
