Brand Name Mandatory Justification for Hurco VMX42SRTi 5-Axis CNC Milling Machine

Description of Supplies/Services:

The Engineering Sciences branch requires a new 5-Axis CNC Milling Machine, with conversational programming capabilities. This milling machine will allow the research team to more rapidly fabricate new and complex parts, or modify existing parts, that are needed to conduct crash testing using the CAMI impact sled. Currently, in some cases, there may be a six- month lead-time on these replacement parts and such delays can lead to a work stoppage for researchers. An updated machine is needed to quickly design, modify current design, or duplicate a part that needs to be replaced.
