Background
Despite the emergence of effective vaccines and therapeutics, SARS-CoV-2 continues to present a major public health challenge globally. TDB Biology is committed to continuing development of novel molecules that can inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection to meet this need. TDB Biology has developed an assay to measure the generation of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid in collaboration with Cisbio. In this assay an antibody combination is used to measure the levels of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid, which is one of the main protein components of SARS-CoV-2. Cells are first infected with live SARS-CoV-2 or one of its variants and then as the virus replicates increasing levels of nucleocapsid can be detected by the binding of the two antibodies which produce a FRET signal. Cells treated with effective viral entry or replication inhibitors lead to a reduction in this FRET signal as less nucleocapsid is present in solution.
