The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology (LCMB) plans to procure the Hamamatsu ORCA II ER CCD Camera with MetaMorph Premier Software with computer from BioVision Technologies, 64 E. Uwchlan Avenue, Exton, PA 18341.
This acquisition will be processed in accordance with simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13.106-1 (b)(1). The North American Industry Classification System code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees.
The NCI LCMB investigates the process of cell division (mitosis), focusing on the role of intracellular signaling mechanisms controlled by small GTPase Ran. Research the past several years showed that the contribution of Ran signaling to correct mitotic spindle assembly is essential in a variety of cells, including human cells. Dr. Petr Kalab, now with NCI, lab developed fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) based molecular sensors that allow visualization and quantitative analysis of Ran function in live experimental systems.
The Hamamatsu ORCA II ER CCD Camera has a unique combination of small pixel size, high quantum, efficiency and low noise required for LCMB research. The camera must be capable of producing 12 or 14 bit images of the resolution 1344x1024 pixels with CCD detector displaying quantum yield >70% in the range of CFP and YFP emission (470-550nm). The chip must be cooled to at least -60 degrees Centigrade. The serial must be a high performance IEEE 1394. The contractor shall provide, install and maintain the MetaMorph Premier software which will operate the fluorescence microscope for FRET detection. The software must operate on a Windows PC. The contractor shall intregrate the above items into the existing IX81 microscope and Sutter filter wheel. The contractor shall also provide installation and training.
MetaMorph Premier software is required so that it will be compatible with vast amounts of data previously acquired and processed using the MetaMorph Premier software.
BioVision Technologies is a distributor for the Hamamatsu camera and MetaMorph Premier software.
