The sole source determination is based on that Illumina is the only company to produce arrays for genome-wide analysis of methylation status of human DNA and is the sole distributor of this product. The Illumina arrays use the Infinium chemistry used in genotyping arrays currently being run in the lab and these arrays are compatible with the robotic liquid handling system and scanner available to the lab.
The software module for analysis of methylation from the Illumina arrays is only available from Illumina and is the only module compatible with existing array analysis software currently being run in the lab. This module is also the only available software package that allows integration of methylation and array gene expression data directly from the raw scan data.
