The FMU-153A/B Fuze is the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) special purpose fuze used in conjunction with 105mm PGU-44/B projectiles. The projectile is fired from a specially mounted 105mm Howitzer in the AC-130 Gunship. The FMU-153A/B Fuze may be set for either Point Detonating (PD) or Delay (DLY) depending on the type of target. In the PD mode the fuze may be used against soft targets or for registration on hard targets. In the DLY mode the fuze may be used against hard targets where target penetration is desired. The FMU-153A/B Fuze contains a more robust fuze body as compared to typical artillery fuzes to improve hard target penetration.
