The purpose of this contract is pre-commercial, with wildlife emphasis, thinning of around 88 acres of young growth conifers established from a 1979 harvest unit. The project area is located on Zarembo Island, Southeast Alaska. The work area is accessible via boat, float-plane. The project area is accessed by the St. John Log Transfer Facility (LTF) to FS road 6590 to the 6585 to the 6589 (roads are well identified on the ground). A bridge has been removed approximately 0.15 miles before the Jct.. of FS road 6585 and FS road 6589, approximately 0.8 miles from the cutting unit. ATV access is allowed, but contractor will need to make the determination if it is feasible. St. John’s LTF can be accessed from Wrangell by boat or floatplane. Wrangell is accessible via Alaska Airlines and the Alaska Marine Highway System. This project is composed of a single “polygon” or “cutting unit”. The performance period is 30 days. The solicitation will be posted on FedBizOpps website on or about September 1, 2006 for viewing and printing.
