This contract is to provide designs for instream and riparian improvements on two stream reaches within the upper South Fork Clearwater River subbasin, near Elk City, Idaho. The objectives of the designs are to improve water quality, fish habitat and riparian conditions. The Red River Narrows reach is 1.8 miles long and includes improvement needs associated with dispersed recreation use in the riparian area. The Crooked River Fivemile reach is 0.8 miles long. Both stream reaches were historically dredge-mined and support populations of spring chinook salmon, steelhead trout, bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout. The solicitation will be timed to allow field work to be completed in 2005. Contract completion date is anticipated to be in February, 2006.
Field trip tour on September 7 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time at the Red River Ranger Station. The Ranger Station is located on County Road #222 about 12.5 miles south of its junction with State Highway 14. This junction is about 3 miles west of Elk City, near Bennett Forest Industries lumber mill. Travel times to Red River Ranger Station are just under 2 hours from Grangeville and about 1/2 hour from Elk City.
