Clearing, limbing and mulching of hardwood and pine midstory trees using front mounted rotary drum flail or fixed tooth fecon-type cutter head on twelve (12) longleaf pine forest tracts totaling 220.34 acres for the purpose of controlling hardwood competition and improving quality of habitat for the Red-cockaded Woodpecker. The period of performance shall be December 15, 2005, through February 1, 2006. The solicitation is set aside for small businesses and is subject to simplified acquisition procedures. A pre-bid meeting and site showing will be held on November 30, 2003. The pre-bid meeting will begin at 9:00 A.M. in the conference room, Environmental and Natural Resources Division, Building 2563, Engineer Road at Essayons Road, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Upon arriving at the security checkpoint, you will be diverted through the far right hand lane. You will be asked to present a driver's license or other photo identification for each occupant in the vehicle, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance covering the use of the vehicle. You will be issued a temporary pass at that time. All vehicles are subject to search. Firearms will not be permitted. If you are asked the purpose of your visit, advise that you are going to the Environmental Offices for a contract site showing. Directions to pre-bid meeting: Take I-77 to Forest Drive (Exit 12). Travel east on Forest Drive approximately 0.5 mile to Fort Jackson, Gate #2. Obtain temporary pass. Upon entering Gate #2, continue on Strom Thurmond Blvd. (same street as Forest Drive) to the 3rd traffic light. Turn right on Marion Avenue (at hospital). Travel on Marion Avenue approximately 0.25 mile past the 2nd traffic light. Turn left on Engineer Road. Travel two short blocks to the end of Engineer Road. Building 2563 will be on your right. Park in any unreserved space outside the fenced enclosure.
