The U.S. Department of Agriculture, ARS, Plant Introduction Station, intends to negotiate solely with CH Farms & Services, Inc., Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, for maize accession nurseries in April and July. Puerto Rico is used to regenerate tropical materials because of the day length and photoperiod requirements of the germplasm.. It is important that the provider be able to provide land and agronomic services as well as pollinating labor to provide a quality product. Fertility, irrigation, and selection of farm chemicals are very important; the provider must work with maize curatorial staff in Ames to ensure that the chemicals selected are appropriate for the germplasm. Phytosanitary inspection and certification of the field is required prior to harvest to ensure our ability to distribute the seeds. Companies with demonstrated capability and financial capacity to provide this service must submit a written substantive statement outlinging the company capability to the Contracting Officer within 10 days of publication of this notice.
