The National Science Foundation (NSF) intends to issue a purchase order to procure the EurekAlert! online news service subscription managed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) on a sole source basis.

Launched in 1996, EurekAlert! features news, experts and other resources focused on science, medicine, and technology. EurekAlert!'s audience includes over 13,500 reporters, 5,500 public information officers, and hundreds of thousands of other visitors.

Under this order, NSF will be have a dedicated news site on EurekAlert! that would feature news, experts and other resources posted by NSF and by public information officers working for NSF-sponsored researchers. Access to the funding alert system through EurekAlert! notifies NSF of university and journal efforts to publicize NSF-funded research. As a result, NSF received the advance notice it needs to prepare its own outreach efforts.

As the world's largest and most comprehensive science news service, EurekAlert! is in a unique position providing the funding alert service to NSF. Through no other single source would NSF be able to find out about the release of breaking and embargoed NSF-funded news.

The period of performance is the date of award through December 31, 2020.

The proposed contract action is for services for which the government intends to sponsor with only one source under the authority of FAR 13.106. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. This synopsis is for information purposes only.
