This is an amended version of the following Special Notice posted Aug 04, 2003 (FedBizOpps Solicitation Number: USA-SNOTE-030804-002). This amended notice updates the email address for submitting applications to join the National Warheads and Energetics Consortium (NWEC) and changes the deadline for submission of the applications from 5 September 2003 to 31 October 2003. “Special Notice: The Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC) is a Department of Defense (DoD) Laboratory initiative chartered to advance ordnance system technologies. The DOTC has a working relationship with the National Warheads and Energetics Consortium (NWEC). The NWEC was formed by a broad-based group of approximately 50 academic institutions and aerospace, defense and manufacturing companies to work cooperatively as a research and development consortium – specifically, as a consortium to conduct R&D activities in cooperation with DOTC in the area of warheads and energetics, which encompasses warheads, energetics, propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, fuzes, and demil. NWEC works with the DOTC under an Other Transaction (OT) through which NWEC members are awarded research projects that have been competitively selected from projects submitted by the NWEC members. The overall purpose of the DOTC/NWEC cooperative program is to maintain a critical mass of scientists and engineers to conduct research and demonstrate new and improved technologies essential to the national defense. Organizations that have an expertise in these areas, especially conventional munitions demilitarization research and development, and are interested in joining the NWEC should request a NWEC application from Joseph Taglairino, NWEC Consortium Director.
