The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) intends to extend on a sole source basis contract DCA200-96-D-0048 for up to 12 months. The contract is with COMSAT Mobile Communications, 6560 Rock Springs Drive, Bethesda, MD 20817. This contract is for International Maritime Satellite (INMARSAT) digital service that provides High Speed Data (HSD) A, C, B, HSD B and M terminals with COMSAT STU-III (algorithm). All services are provided on a global basis 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, ship-to-ship, ship-to shore. Requirements for this extension can only be met by contractors currently providing service. The statutory authority for other than full and open competition is 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). This action continues service to allow time for transitioning terminals to the new INMARSAT contracts.
