The USPTO plans to award a purchase order sole source to Thomson Scientific for access to Thomson's online proprietary gene sequence database. The USPTO's patent examiners need access to all of the world's patented nucleic acid nd protein sequences, small proteins and peptides. Patent examiners examination of genetic sequence patent applications would be negatively impacted without access to this database. Without access to the unique data in the Genseq database, the USPTO's capability to do a complete nucleic acid and protein sequence search would be compromised.
