This is a notice of intent to compete Apple Xserve RAID as part of an overall SAN solution. We use Linux as our operating system. It plays a major role in our data and system administration. We take full advantage of open source software (Perl programming language, C and C++) and non-recurring licensing fees on software. The Apple Xserve RAID is fully compliant with Linux and will allow us to satisfy a requirement to have independent, 5.6 TB RAID drives (compatible with NISTââ¬â¢s existing configuration), that provide maximum flexibility to reconfigure the SANs. Classified information can easily be moved to a secure location with out an impact on the entire SAN. The Xserve RAID hardware will allow NIST to leverage our existing Apple hardware and open source software applications running on Linux while providing a modular mean of extending storage and computational power. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, all quotations received within ten days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed brand name based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a, competitive, brand name procurement.
