The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has a requirement for the temporary storage of the decommissioned, defueled, and inactivated USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) on the East Coast while disposal alternatives are evaluated and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is completed. The proposed contract effort will provide safe stowage of the decommissioned CVN 65 at the Huntington Ingalls Incorporated, Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS) facility, 4101 Washington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607. The requirements include engineering, procurement, documentation, fabrication, personnel training and shipyard work to safeguard the vessel, including security, radiological monitoring, appropriate ventilation fabrication and maintenance, hull preservation, and preparation for final tow. The only commercial facility on the East Coast that is approved for nuclear vessels and capable of storing a defueled nuclear powered aircraft carrier is HII-NNS. Therefore, HII-NNS is the only source with the detailed knowledge of and familiarity with nuclear powered aircraft carriers that is qualified to perform the required work. Firms interested in subcontracting opportunities should contact HII-NNS directly. This synopsis is being posted to the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at https: www.fbo.gov.
