his acquisition is for the purchase of the supplies and services to replace the instrument control PC and its operating software for the Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, model MA25 scanning electron microscope (SEM). The scanning electron microscope is a commercially available instrument wholly engineered and manufactured by Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, and is used in the Materials Engineering Laboratory for analyses and investigations, Supplies: Instrument control PC, with factory installed Win7 operating system (OS) (or higher), and Zeiss SmartSEM v6.01 control software (or higher).

Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, is the manufacturer of the model MA25 SEM. The control system and software are proprietary items to the manufacturer. The SEM's control system directs and coordinates the motorized sample stage and magnification objective nose-piece to methodically obtain detailed, visually calibrated metallurgical images used for microstructural analysis at magnifications up to 5000X. The SEM was purchased as an off-the-shelf instrument (FY10) under a competitive procurement based on a performance specification. All components and software within the SEM are proprietary to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC. Because the components and software are integral to the SEM, we do not have adequate information to be able to create a statement of work with sufficient detail for suppliers to bid.
