The USDA, ARS, Western Regional Research Center, Albany, California has a requirement for an automated Colony Picking System; minimum requirements include chroma colorimetric colony selection software (blue/white colony selection software license), 5-way adjustable petri dish holder, replicating and re-arraying kit software/accessories, re-arraying and replicating head standard transfer 96-pin for 96- and 384-well plates. This colony picking system must be a fully automated bacterial colony picking machine capable of picking colonies from standard sized agar petri plates or large format agar trays and place them into 24, 48, 96 or 384 well plates containing culture media. The system must have the ability to selectively pick colonies using blue/white screening commonly employed by the use of Xgal in the culture media to discriminate bacteria with plasmids containing inserts into the lacZ gene. The system must have ability to pick fluorescent colonies due to natural fluorescence or due to the presence of transformed genes such as gfp. The system must be capable of replicating, rearraying and gridding 24, 48, 96 or 384 well plates containing cultures in to new 24, 48, 96, or 384 well plates containing culture media; must be capable of transferring cultures by use of stainless steel transfer pins that the machine sterilizes between runs (instead of disposable plastic transfer needles); must have self-sterilizing 96 pin head to pick colonies and self-sterilizing 96 loop head to transfer liquid cultures to new liquid media; must be capable of reading bar codes for destination plates in order to inventory plates. This automated colony picking system must include installation/start-up/commissioning, user manuals, warranties and site training. Identify shipping/freight costs, and any other required fees.
