The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will retain an engineering or construction management (CM) firm to provide CM and construction inspection (CI) services for the Scranton Beltway project. The Scranton Beltway project will link Interstate 81 and the Turnpike's Northeastern Extension, Interstate 476, in the Scranton area to form a beltway that will help ease congestion on Interstate 81. The project will include two (2) separate connection points between the Turnpike's Interstate 476 and PennDOT's Interstate 81. The connection points will be located at Clarks Summit to the north of Scranton in South Abington Township, Lackawanna County, and at Wyoming Valley to the south of Scranton in the Borough of Dupont and Pittston Township, Luzerne County. Once constructed, motorists will be able to travel at highway speed from interstate to interstate in both the northbound and southbound directions. The CM/CI agreement will include professional services during both the design and construction phases of the project. Multiple construction contracts at an estimated total cost of $160 million are currently anticipated to be bid in late 2024 or early 2025. Construction is anticipated to take approximately two (2) years. The above project information is accurate to the best of our knowledge. Contracts may change in scope, bidding methods, construction schedule, or type of construction as design progresses. Project information is also subject to change as designs progress.
