PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION

The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) is a complex of radioactive waste treatment processing facilities designed and constructed by Bechtel for the Department of Energy (DOE). The facility will process the Hanford Site tank waste and put the waste into a stable glass form. The processed waste will be shipped to other sites for depository.

The Project site is located at 200 East Area of the Hanford Site near Richland, Washington, along the Columbia River. The site elevation varies from 662 to 684 feet above mean sea level. Sand and silt exist as surface materials. Ambient temperature is (-) 23 degrees F minimum to 113 degrees F maximum, with relative humidity of 5% minimum to 100% maximum. The project design life is 40 years.

SCOPE OF WORK

Design and fabricate a Process Bulge.  Bulges are extensions of process "Black" cells that house maintainable equipment (control valves, pumps, instruments, etc.), providing shielding for workers performing maintenance.

Bulge design includes input from Buyer supplied data sheets, Project specifications, and P&IDs.  Input documents dictate bounding dimensions, preliminary piping layout, schematic requirements, and required inlet/outlet locations.  A seismic analysis and report meeting UBC requirements (using Buyer's location and specified inputs) is required.  Piping design shall meet ASME B31.3 1996 requirements.  Maintenance platforms shall meet requirements set forth in WAC 296-24 and Buyer's Project specifications.

Seller is required to procure all equipment and instrumentation.

Fabrication of piping shall meet ASME B31.3 1996.  Piping is subject to 100% radiography for all butt-welds.  Seller is required to demonstrate removal/replacement of maintainable equipment using tent or bag-in/bag-out system.

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • Control valves and actuators
  • Shielding
  • Piping
  • Instrumentation and controls
  • Structural components
  • Other equipment as needed in support of the bulge design and process
