The department desires to purchase a Ceilometer that employs pulsed diode laser Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) Technology, where short, Powerful laser pulses are sent out in a vertical or near-vertical direction. The reflection of light, backscatter, caused by haze, fog, mist, virga, precipitation, and clouds, is measure as the laser pulses traverse the sky in order to measure the height of these cloud layers which affect air pollutant transport. This is required by the EPA at the St. Louis City Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Station (PAMS) Air Monitoring Site.
