The USDA ARS National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA, intends to award procurement of 81 Caesarian-derived, colostrum-deprived (CDCD) 4-week old piglets to Struve Laboratories for an upcoming project. The piglets for this study must be free from colonization with haemophilus parasuis and Streptococcus suis and free of colostrum-derived or other antibodies against these pathogens. They must also be free of respiratory and enteric disease, and be sound of foot and body. Struve Laboratories is the commercial laboratory in the USA raising CDCD pigs. The nature of the upcoming research requires Caesarian-derived, colostrum-deprived CDCD piglets. Pigs obtained from conventional sources do not meet the required criteria.
