Mojave National Preserve is conducting market research for an inventory of caves within the preserve. Project is expected to take place in the fall/winter of 2010/2011. Funding for project is not known at this time, but is expected to be under $100,000. Decision to solicit for a contract through Federal Business Opportunities or General Services Administration's EBuy program has not been made. Mojave National Preserve is approximately 1.6 million acres, located in San Bernardino County between the I-15 and I-40 freeways. Information on the preserve can be located at: www.nps.gov/moja The project involves collecting needed inventory data for caves and rock shelters within Mojave National Preserve. Included within this project is searching areas within the Preserve to determine if caves are present. Baseline inventory for each site will include GPS position, an entrance photograph, geological features, presence of wildlife, cultural resource data and observation of human disturbance. All caves located shall be mapped if their depth (length of passage) exceeds the greatest dimension of the opening. For example, a cave with an opening 12 feet wide and a depth of 12 feet does not have to be mapped but may be at the discretion of the project leader. Interested parties may contact Jim Read, Contract Specialist, Mojave National Preserve at [email protected] or 760-252-6112 with information or questions.
