The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Division of Vector Borne Diseases intends to award a sole source firm-fixed price equipment purchase contract to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, 1 Zeiss Dr., Thornwood, NY 10594.
The statutory authority for this sole source acquisition is 10 U.S.C. 2304 (c) (1) in accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1- only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy the agency requirement.
Studies performed with these scientific instruments require they be maintained to the original manufacturer's specifications to prevent negatively impacting the scientific data obtained from them, which would compromise the integrity and continuity of our ongoing research. Carl Zeiss Microscopy is the sole manufacturer of the equipment to be covered under this service agreement. Carl Zeiss Microscopy has its own technical service representatives, who receive comprehensive on-going factory training, certification, regular technical updates, and have direct access to original manufacturer's parts and proprietary software upgrades to help keep our Carl Zeiss Microscopy instruments in optimal condition. Only Carl Zeiss Microscopy technicians can engage directly with the engineers who design Carl Zeiss Microscopy instruments to help resolve our most challenging technical support needs. This expertise is exclusive to Carl Zeiss Microscopy telephone and field support technicians. This plan covers recommended preventative maintenance and one preventative maintenance visit per year, all labor, travel, and parts for an unlimited number of on-demand service visits and telephone support calls.
Carl Zeiss Microscopy is the only source that is compatible with the current Carl Zeiss Microscopy products.
The NAICS code is 334516 Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing with a size standard of 1,000 employees.
