NLS has a requirement for two types of Braille books. One type is Standard Braille, which conforms to National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) Specification #800 and continues the fine tradition of braille produced to high-quality standards. The second type of braille book is called "Quick Braille" in this document, and refers to books that have been transcribed into braille sometimes through use of well-designed computer translation software with very little human intervention. Although these "Quick Braille" titles will not conform to NLS specifications in all respects, NLS may opt to purchase either digital master .brf files or copies or both in order to build greater content of books available for braille readers.

This contract is for the transcription-from text to braille-duplication, and binding if applicable, of books selected by NLS for inclusion in the NLS collection. Six (6) unit prices are requested for each tier (number of titles):
1) Transcription per page conforming to NLS Specification #800 (NLS Standard Braille - SBT).
2) Transcription per title not fully conforming to NLS Specification#800, but judged acceptable by NLS for some publications (NLS Quick Braille - QBT)
3) Duplication per pressed page (pressing) conforming to NLS Specifications #800 (SBD).
4) Duplication per embossed page not fully conforming to NLS Specification#800, but judged acceptable by NLS for some publications (Quick Dup - QBD).
5) Binding price per volume for covers conforming to NLS Specification #800 (SBB).
6) Binding price per volume for covers not fully conforming to NLS Specification#800, but judged acceptable by NLS for some publications (Quick Dup BR - QBB).

Some titles selected by NLS may be available to eligible readers via a web site only. Not all titles selected by NLS will be duplicated and bound.
