First published Tuesday, June 21, 2016 The University awarded a contract for Biomass Boiler to Rund Farms DBA Green Flame Energy, Pesotum, IL, for an estimated $148,081.90. The vendor will provide a 205kW biomass boiler capable of producing hot water for space heating from chopped biomass (Miscanthus). System will include the boiler, feedstock handling/conveyance mechanism, 2000 gallon hot water storage vessel, and associated control, pumps, and heat exchanger to achieve a functional heat system. Campus F&S Job Order Contracting (JOCS) will be responsible for the piping and associated equipment to convey the hot water produced from this system in this purchase to the end point for space heating of the greenhouse building at 4110 S. Race St. Urbana, IL. The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the This is the only vendor that has been identified which can provide a biomass boiler capable of using chopped perennial grasses (Miscanthus) - the fuel source to be used in this project - as the primary source of feedstock fuel. We will also hold a hearing if any vendor submits a signed statement showing the capability to provide the stated supplies/services at or below the amount indicated. The public hearing allows any interested party the opportunity to testify for or against the sole source determination as described in this notice. The purpose of the hearing is to receive information from the public in a reasonable manner. Formal rules of evidence will not apply. The hearing officer will produce minutes of the hearing and may record it in order to aid in the production of the minutes.
