The Benjamin Gaither Center is operated by the City providing programs & services for older adults since April 1, 1991. The current membership is over 600, 60% resident & representative of the community’s many varied cultures. The Benjamin Gaither Center offers members lunch through the daily Nutrition Program, which is federally & state funded under Titles III & VI of the Older Americans Act & managed by Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services. It is one of the most important & valued programs the center offers. The center provided approximately 7,900 meals a year between 2016 & 2019 before the COVID-19 closure. The program is open to people over the age of 60 & their spouses of any age. The purpose of the program is to reduce social isolation, offer exposure to wellness activities & ensure each individual has an opportunity to enjoy a healthy, nutritionally balanced meal each day. The successful bidder must be able to operate in the kitchen & have services in place to provide the Nutrition Program under this contract beginning October 1, 2021, & shall remain available through June 30, 2022. This operator will conduct services under the direction of a licensed food service kitchen & manager. Success bidder will have access to the Benjamin Gaither Center seven days a week so as to conduct the Nutrition Program Services & outside catering opportunities as indicated through the rental of the kitchen. Nutrition Program offers one meal a day (lunch) at Noon, Monday – Friday throughout the year; the facility is closed on major holidays. Estimated 7,900 meals are served annually, pre-COVID-19. Compensation for meals associated with Nutrition Program is $7.10 per meal, through State Funding & will be paid to the successful offeror monthly. Future funding is not guaranteed. Menu provided through the Montgomery County Nutritionist. Catering of events at the Benjamin Gaither Center are not guaranteed. Successful bidder shall have access to the Center seven (7) days a week to conduct the Senior Nutrition Program Services and also allow outside catering opportunities as indication through the rental of the kitchen. The successful bidder must be familiar with and knowledgeable regarding: Preparation of meals as outlined in the State of Maryland Nutrition Requirements to provide ⅓ the necessary dietary reference intake (DRI) for older adults & follow the dietary guidelines for Americans.
