The US Geological Survey (USGS) intends to award a purchase order to The University of British Columbia, for rock sample analysis of Sr, Nd, Pb, and Hf isotopes.
Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
13.106-l(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of
Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
The University of British Columbia is, to the knowledge of the USGS, the only source who can
ensure data continuity as they processed rock sample analyses that were done at the
same lab (UBC - PCIGR) using the same methods and equipment.
The University of British Columbia offer composite analyses of the suite of radiogenic isotopes (e.g., 87Sr/86Sr, 143Nd/144Nd, 176Hf/177Hf) on the same digested sample aliquot, with the option to combine these analyses with sample preparation by dissolution in high-pressure digestion vessels (bombs). Traditional digest methods do not effectively break down resistive HFSE±REE minerals like zircon and may involve coprecipitation of insoluble HFSE±REE-bearing fluorides in Ca-rich samples.
The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.2. This
notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible
parties may submit a capability statement which may be considered by the
agency. No solicitation will be issued. A determination not to compete this
action based upon responses received is in the sole discretion of the
Government.
The NAICS code 541380 (Testing Laboratories and Services) and
PSC B517 (Special Studies/Analysis- Geological) apply to this announcement.
