The IRP, Gerontology Research Center, National Institute on Aging, NIH, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the University of Washington, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Seattle, WA. The contractor will provide longitudinal follow-up data on a well-characterized sample of spouse caregivers (including spouses of Alzheimer's disease patients and a control sample of spouses who do not provide care to their spouses). All spouses recruited in this study were required to be married and living together at study entry, and all Alzheimer's disease patients had been diagnosed with primary degenerative dementia based on DSM-IV criteria as well as NINCDS-ADRDA criteria for probable Alzheimer's disease. Contractor will also administer the full self-report Revised NEO Personality Inventory to all active and inactive study participants.
