The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source purchase order to Ohio State University, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Wooster, Ohio 44691. The contractor shall provide gnotobiotic piglet facility and an excellent track record in the area of rotavirus vaccine research. The vendor shall have all reagents and assays in place to reliably complete all laboratory tests and provide guidance for future clinical trials in humans. It would be counterproductive for the CDC to have to set up a facility for a vendor who does not have the prerequisite knowledge and experience with a study that involves complex operation procedures, collection of blood and fecal specimens, performance of various complex immunologic assays, and maintenance and monitoring of vaccinated/infected animals. This is a simplified acquisition; therefore, the successful contractor will be award a purchase order under this mechanism.
