The California Spotted Owl Surveying and Monitoring Projects for the San Bernardino National Forest are located in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, California. The project consists of monitoring 125-147 California spotted owl territories in the San Bernardino National Forest. The surveys will determine status occupied vs. unoccupied and reproductive success nesting attempts, hatching success, and fledging success for each territory. Nest sites will be mapped for each territory if nests are located. Roost locations or juvenile sightings will also be mapped. If possible, the nest sites will be GPSed. A final report will be completed for each year. Work is to be performed only by qualified spotted owl surveyors with previous experience. Contractor will also provide general consulting regarding habitat mapping, history of survey information, or other information regarding current or historical status of California spotted owls on the San Bernardino National Forest, as requested. The work site locations occur in the San Jacinto, San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. All contract areas are on the San Bernardino National Forest. All work areas may be reached by driving on standard Forest Service roads, by driving on four-wheel drive roads, or by walking. Walking distances will vary within the project areas. The recommended contract time is 365 calendar days. Contractors must be registered in Central Contractors Registry BEFORE a proposal is submitted.
