The objective of this contract is to provide technical assistance with the collection and bioenergetic analysis of nearshore marine fish species and their prey collected near Barrow, Alaska. This includes being responsible for proper field collection techniques of Arctic nearshore fish and zooplankton, measurement of associated environmental data, sample organization, measuring and documenting related biodata in the field, and ensuring correct storage and shipping procedures of samples for analysis in the analytical chemistry laboratory. The contractor will be responsible for the biological and bioenergetic analysis of samples at ABL, Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute in Juneau, AK. The contractor will analyze the samples using bomb calorimetry, and will prepare samples for other analyses including RNA/DNA, lipid and protein analysis. The contractor will be responsible for adhering to strict Standard Operating Procedures, keeping accurate and organized data in logbooks, adhering to chain of custody procedures, conducting data Quality Assurance (QA) at every level of data collection, archiving data in the Nutritional Lab's ACCESS database, provide data summaries and figures, work with project colleagues to analyze and interpret stable isotope data, and aid in report and manuscript writing.
