The National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center intends to award a sole source purchase order to Haemonetics Corporation, 400 Wood Road, Braintree, MA 02184 for Mononuclear Cell Separator (MCS) # LN970 and # LN971 apheresis kits on a sole source basis pursuant to FAR 6.302-1 and 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1)-Only 1 responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements for these kits.
Haemonetics is the sole manufacturer of the MCS #LN970 and # LN971 apheresis kits. These kits are intended for use on the Haemonetics MCS Cell Separator device. The kits are used to collect mononuclear cells (MNC) by the Department of Transfusion Medicine apheresis unit. The mononuclear cells collected are used to support approximately 40 different protocols in 7 institutes and the Clinical Center. The Haemonetics MCS device is the only apheresis machine offering discontinuous or âone arm venous accessâ apheresis where less than 3x10e9 mononuclear cells are collected. Other apheresis devices used for mononuclear cells collection require 2 arm venous accesses that are continuous flow devices and collect more cells than the researchers require.
