The FSIS Eastern & Western laboratories perform regulatory testing and confirmation for antibiotics and drug residue in meat animal tissue. The objective is to acquire a triple stage mass spectrometer with the Q3 analytical quadrupole capable of use as a linear ion trap (QTrap) for each location. The 6500 QTrap, manufactured by Sciex, will increase the detection limit for compounds currently being analyzed and increase the laboratories' capability to meet new emerging technology. The QTrap has the ability to generate MRM3 spectra increasing compound selectivity from complex samples which will enhance data quality while reducing sample preparation requirements. Each purchase will include an Agilent model 1290 ultra-high pressure liquid (UHPLC) through Sciex that has been fully integrated as the sample delivery device into the QTrap.
