Evaluation of Chemopreventive Agents by In Vivo Screening Assays
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP), Chemoprevention Development Group (CADRG), is interested in evaluating inhibitors or potential inhibitors of any stage of carcinogenesis, in order to identify potential chemopreventive agents against cancer. Such agents are to be further evaluated in appropriate toxicological or clinical settings. The CADRG has established a clearly defined integrated plan for evaluation of chemopreventive agents. This plan delineates detailed criteria for classifying the quantity and quality of information that currently exits on any chemopreventive agents and thus defines what additional information and investigations are required to qualify the agent's experimental use in intervention trials of human cancer. The primary purpose of this RFP is to evaluate chemopreventive agents In Vivo for inhibition carcinogenesis. The object of these studies is to establish the relative efficacies of selected chemopreventive agents in at least one animal model system. The animal model systems represent various groups elected target organs, different species, and different carcinogens.
