The Department of Veteran Affairs, NCA 8 NF/SG is seeking responsible sources to provide service as outlined in the Statement of Work. This is market research for informational and planning purposes only. This is not a solicitation and does not obligate the government to issue a solicitation. STATEMENT OF WORK BACKGROUND: Nonpharmacologic Management of Challenging Behaviors in Veterans with Dementia is a tailored activity intervention for Veterans with dementia. This proposed study tests the efficacy of a transformative patient-centric intervention designed to reduce the burden of NPS in Veterans with dementia that live at home with family caregivers. The innovative intervention, the Tailored Activity Program (TAP), involves 8 sessions over 4 months in Veterans' homes. OBJECTIVE: The overall objective of this contract is to acquire experienced, professional services to assist in the execution of an intervention targeted to Veterans with dementia. The overall job responsibilities will include assessment of the tailored intervention activities specifically designed for each of 80 Veterans. DEFINITIONS: Tailored Activity Program (TAP), Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center (RORC), neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) PERSONNEL QUALIFICATIONS The contractor to perform the specifications outlined will each have minimum qualifications of: " Professional degree in aging, occupational therapy, and experience with dementia care giving. " Extensive experience in dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and cognitive disorders in the elderly. " Excellent communication, organization, and analytic strategy skills. " Extensive research experience with and for the elderly, on neuropsychiatric behaviors, and with multi-site studies. " Extensive experience with the TAP protocol. SCOPE OF WORK The contractor's representatives will assist the VA researcher and other members of the VA research team by: 1. Provide training in the TAP protocol for occupational therapists 2. Provide training and assessment in Allen battery 3. Provide fidelity monitoring through telephone debriefing sessions 4. Provide training and assessment of intervention strategies 5. Provide protocol monitoring and assist with debriefings. 6. Assist in the development of dissemination materials for distribution to targeted communities. 7. Quarterly progress reports (number of subjects enrolled, recruitment schedule, training schedule, etc.) DATA/DELIVERABLES Each of the following items is ongoing through year one (and beyond): 1. Provide training in the TAP protocol for occupational therapists 2. Provide training and assessment in Allen battery 3. Provide fidelity monitoring through telephone debriefing sessions 4. Provide training and assessment of intervention strategies 5. Provide protocol monitoring and assist with debriefings. 6. Assist in the development of dissemination materials for distribution to targeted communities. 7. Quarterly progress reports (number of subjects enrolled, recruitment schedule, training schedule, etc.) If the contract needs to be terminated or discontinued prior to the contract end date, a termination report must be completed that includes a summary or results obtained/work done and the reasons for termination.
