Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials & Manufacturing Directorate (Survivability & Sensor Materials Division (AFRL/MLP)) solicits research proposals for the Laser Materials Testing Program (LMT). The purpose of this program is to provide new and innovative approaches in the conduct of research on material response to laser irradiation. Experiments are to be conducted on laser/material interactions in a variety of simulated operational environments using the Laser Hardened Materials Evaluation Laboratory (LHMEL). Laser testing of both baseline and advanced materials is required in support of technology development programs on hardened materials for a variety of applications. This effort is to perform materials response experiments on aerospace materials, analyze materials degradation phenomena during irradiation, characterize emerging hardened materials and evaluate the system response of components and optical sensing apparatus under irradiation. Development and integration of innovative experimental configurations, equipment, instrumentation and techniques are to be accomplished to continually enhance the testing capabilities of the LHMEL facility.
