The U. S. Department of Commerce, National Marine Fisheries Service, intends to procure services of a Contractor to conduct research to identify fishing mortality of smalltooth sawfish and the monitoring of its nursery habitats. The objectives of the project are to: (1) Identify historic sources of fishing mortality, (2) Identify the current sources of by-catch and determine which (if any) result in mortality, and (3) Determine the level of site fidelity in juvenile smalltooth sawfish using long-term monitoring of habitats. Deliverables will include a report on the site facility. A summary report will be due nine (9) months after the project is awarded and a final report will be due twelve (12) months after the project is awarded. The schedule of work includes such activities as: equipment ordering, deployment and servicing, database queries and fisher interviews, report on current bycatch and mortality, reports on various phases. Offerors must provide the following information with their quote for technical evaluation purposes: Experience with radio or satellite telemetry on sawfish and other species of elasmobranch population, and at least three years of field work experience with smalltooth sawfish.
