The US Army Joint Munitions & Lethality Contracting Center, Picatinny Arsenal,NJ is announcing its intent to solicit and negotiate a sole source Firm Fixed Price contract with Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO. The HIPIMS/MPP coating technology is very valuable to the coating industry because it allows the use of a high flux of metallic ions to deposit coatings with enhanced adhesion properties at high deposition rates. The Modulated Pulse Power (MPP) technology has been incorporated into closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering systems at the Colorado School of Mines. The purpose of this contract is to facilitate the integration of the HIPIMS-MPP technologies for Army large caliber cannon applications; Parametric baseline data for Tantalum, Chromium, and Chromium Nitride coating depositions on gun steel for Army wear-erosion-corrosion applications based on the MPP technology.
