Enhanced Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Recovery Tool: Accurately measures swelling and shrinkage (strain) of CBM reservoir core samples for enhanced modeling and production planning. This new tool is a breakthrough in speed (1 week), accuracy, and reliability replacing previously used methods that take months to achieve the first data point and up to a year to complete a full-scale test. This novel tool offers data useful in modeling CBM production through reservoir flooding or stimulation, improving optimized resource production. A bench scale model has demonstrated a simple, low cost, and quick (1 week) method of determining the amount of coal matrix strain, as a function of pore pressure and gas composition. The Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory is soliciting interest from coal, natural gas, and industry service companies capable of developing and manufacturing this tool. The purpose of this joint collaboration would be to develop a field scale model for licensing and commercialization. At the conclusion of the development project, the participating firm may seek up to an exclusive field of use license for patented and patent pending intellectual property developed under this project.
