ARDEC plans to contract for the development of two analytical methods for determining the concentration level of selected organic compound (VAAR, vinyl alcohol acetate resin), i.e., hydroxyl content using high resolution NIR (Near infrared Spectroscopy) and FTIR (Fourier Transformed Spectroscopy). The effort will include preparing VAAR standard samples with various hydroxyl contents, ranging from 1% to approximately 20% with said hydroxyl content of determined independently via a wet titration analysis. The samples then will be analyzed using NIR and FTIR and the respective data bases established for each methodology. In addition, the effort will also include training with respect to the use of the NIR and FTIR systems. The period of performance for this proposed effort is three months and will involve the active participation of ARDEC personnel.
