The Navy is seeking information regarding the capability to retrieve data from physically damaged hard drives of any type, including, but not limited to the following: (1) standard commercial hard drives for desktop and/or notebook computers; (2) IDE/EIDE hard drives; (3) SCSI hard drives; (4) serial ATA hard drives; (5) firewire hard drives; (6) USB and USB2 hard drives; (7) ATA 33, ATA 66, ATA 133, ATA 150 hard drives; (8) internal and external drives of the above; (9) hard drives of any rpm including but not limited to 4200 rpm, 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm, 10000 rpm; (10) any hard drive listed above in single or raid 1 or raid 2 configuration; and (11) hard drives of any capacity that are listed above. We are trying to ascertain if it is possible given current technology to extract data from a hard drive with a hole through the platter or warping of platter. Respondents should submit the following: (1) proposed approach (including pictures, if available or applicable); (2) adva! ntages and disadvantages of each solution; (3) the Government's ability to maintain the item; (4) timeline for development and delivery; and (5) rough order of magnitude of cost per unit. This notice does not constitute an invitation for bids or a request for proposal (RFP), and it is not a commitment by the navy to procure products or services. The Navy is only seeking information for future needs. No RFP solicitation document exists at this time. The Navy does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this request for information, and will not reimburse any costs incurred by interested companies responding to this announcement. However, respondents to this request for information w! ill not be excluded from consideration for contract participation in a ny potential follow-on activity.
