The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), National Institutes of Health (NIH) has a research and development requirement to implant and perform subject tests with a research Brain Computer Interface (BCI) able to acquire signals based on neural activity that can be modulated by a subject who is severely impaired in their ability to speak or otherwise communicate. Specialized subject testing and training procedures shall be developed to optimize use of this communication prosthesis in appropriate patient populations. Development of signal processing algorithms will be coordinated with other researchers supported by the related NIDCD solicitation number NIHOD2007042 titled, Brain Computer Interface for Communication: Neural Signal Processing and Control of Audiovisual Displays, being advertised concurrently on this website. The solicitation will be posted on this website on or about December 3, 2007. It is anticipated that a cost reimbursement type contract will awarded on or about September 30, 2008. Proposals will be due approximately 90 days after the date of issuance of the solicitation. Offerors are responsible for routinely checking this website for any amendments to the solicitation.
