REQUEST FOR INFORMATION:
The U.S. Government Printing Office ("GPO") is seeking information that may assist in the development, deployment and operation of a proposed Integrated Digital Book Manufacturing System (IDBMS) to provide on-demand digital printing and finishing capabilities. GPO is looking for an industrial strength, commercial quality, and high speed system. The system must integrate all aspects of book production in one manufacturing line, from accepting PDF files as an input to delivering finished printed materials (i.e., books/pamphlets) as an output. The IDBMS must be able to run continuous rolls of various caliber papers with a minimum 41 g/m2. The system must be flexible enough to allow for rapid changeovers for various product sizes, ranging from 5-7/8 x 9-1/8 inches to 8-1/2 x 11 inches. The thickness of these products could be as high as 1,000 pages per book and the production order as high as 10,000 copies per run. GPO is particularly interested in solutions that can sustain a 24 by 7 production schedule, handle newsprint stock and produce outstanding quality binding solutions with maximal operational speed and efficiency.
