The FAA intends to negotiate a modification to existing contract number DTFA01-01-C-00055 with New Bedford Panoramex Corporation (NBP), Upland, CA, for a quantity of 8 ferro-resonant air-cooled constant current regulators (CCRs) compatible with FAA Types FA-10721 and FA-10723 and a one-year extension of engineering support service for ALSF-2/SSALR systems with a new ceiling amount of $284,000 during a four-year period (2001 - 2004). CCRs must be air-cooled, 50 KW, with an electrical status interface to allow the ALSF-2 control and monitor cabinet to monitor system brightness at levels B1 through B5. CCRs will replace failing oil-cooled CCRs in 3 older ALSF-2 system critical sites, including JFK where installation and changeover must begin by May 2002. NPB is the only source for CCRs meeting these requirements (NBP P/Ns 93001096-01 and -02). NBP P/Ns have already been extensively field tested to demonstrate compliance and compatibility with existing systems and will therefore be available to meet installation schedule. A one-year extension of an existing contract line item for engineering support services will support potential FAA requirements in calendar year 2004 for engineering, testing, diagnostics and trouble shooting on installed type FA-10700 ALSF-2/SSALR systems with remote maintenance monitoring (RMS). All type FAA 10700 systems with RMS have been produced by NBP, and that company is the only non-FAA source having detailed technical knowledge of its design and operation.
