THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR RHENIUM BAR STOCK. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to respond to questions received since posting. The due date for responses is extended to May 26, 2006. The following question and answer is provided in response to questions asked: Question: Do you require a full chemistry or only a certification of composition? Per the request for physical and mechanical properties, do you require the material to meet the Young’s modulus of 280-390MPa, Shear Modulus of 1300-1390MPa, and Poisson’s ratio of 0.285? To provide real Shear and Poisson’s ratio, Torsion testing would be required. The shear and Poisson’s ratio can be roughly calculated from room temperature strength with poor precision. Do you require yield strength at room and high temperature testing and elongation at high temperature? What tensile test bar configuration is required? Answer: A certificate of composition is acceptable. The mechanical properties in the solicitation are intended to be nominal, expected properties consistent with the product form and heat treat, not minimum design properties for our application. We are not asking for the supplier to test the material, but to respond with a product they produce in these ranges. If the company does not offer a product that they feel is consistent with these properties, we will consider their closest suggested alternative. The due date for receipt of offers is extended to 4:30 P.M. CDST, May 26, 2006. Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on May 26, 2006.
