NASA/JSC has a requirement for 100 each Nickel Alloy-718 forgings, NASA P/N SDD26098217-001 in support of Shuttle’s Shear bolt Assembly, NASA P/N SDD26098201-001. Alloy 718 is a Nickel Alloy metal forging supplied in the Solution Heat Treat condition (annealed at 1750 deg. F) P/N SDD26098217-001 that’s used in the fabrication of the Shear Bolt Shank NASA P/N SDD26098201-001. The multiples are 5.150 inch round and cut into 16.75 inches lengths. NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ALLVAC). Shear bolts are unique fracture critical pyrotechnic devices used to release the External tank from the Orbiter. If the unit fail to function, it can cause catastrophic damage to the shuttle vehicle and loss of crew. The parts are built to a special NASA forging process developed by Allvac.
